Biography

From a working-class family of Irish descent. The father left the family in 1910 , the mother died in 1915 , leaving three children. Mary had to earn a living, she changed many classes, got with her brother on the stage where they played vaudeville , was a chorus girl on Broadway ( 1918 ). In 1919 she participated in the Siegfeld Madness revue, from that time she performed under a pseudonym.

The role in the film “ Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ” ( 1920 ) with the participation of John Barrymore drew attention to the actress, she became friends with Barrymore (he affectionately called her dumb Duse ). Blasco Ibáñez was chosen for the role of Dona Sol in the film adaptation of his novel “ Blood and Sand ” ( 1922 ); this role was confirmed by Naldi in the role of a vamp woman. Her partners here were Lila Lee and Rudolf Valentino , with whom she later starred in the films “The Holy Devil” ( 1924 ) and “ Cobra ” ( 1925 ). Topless posed for the famous pinup artist Alberto Vargas ( [1] ). After 1928, she did not act in film, although she auditioned for a role in the film " For Whom the Bell Tolls " ( 1942 ).

Played in more than 30 films.
