Career

At the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck, she won a silver medal in the 5 km race (thereby becoming the only non-Soviet skier to win a medal in the personal race at that Olympics) and a bronze medal in the relay, in addition to being the 10th in the 10 km race.

At the 1962 World Cup in Zakopane, she won the bronze medal in the relay, and also took two 5th places in races of 5 and 10 km.

In the Finnish championships she won 5 times, 2 times in 5 km races and 3 times in 10 km races. Twice, in 1961 and 1963, she was recognized as the athlete of the year in Finland .

She completed her sports career in 1965 at the age of 23 years. Since 1981, in her hometown of Uurainen , a ski race of her name has been held.
