The live market ( Ukrainian: Zhitnі rinok ) is one of the economic centers, the oldest active market in Kiev .

Located on the hem . It originates from the time of Kievan Rus . The Glubochitsa River divided the area of the Zhitny Market into two parts. Around the square in the 1st half of the 12th century, churches were built with funds from trade and craft associations, in particular, the Church of the Virgin Mary Pirogoshchi (Kiev-Podolsky Assumption Cathedral) . In the XV century, the Life market was the main trading center of the city. A fair was held here twice a year. It continued to be one of the main shopping centers, which was greatly facilitated by the proximity to the Dnieper and the harbor .
In 1980, the building of the Zhitny indoor covered market was opened.
