With this album, Ritchie Furey expressed his respect to Graham Parsons , in honor of whom he wrote the title track and re-sang one of Parsons' songs, “Brass Buttons”. The album went on sale just four days before Parsons' death. “Parsons Brass Buttons” was released only on the posthumous 1974 album Grievous Angel .
The song "Magnolia" was written by JJ Cale , and was released on his 1972 debut album Naturally . Poco still continue to play her at concerts. According to Rusty Young, the song “Crazy Eyes” was never performed at concerts due to the excessive complexity of the percussion part, which included, among other things, African drums .
Crazy Eyes was the last album recorded with Fury, who left Poco, together with Jay Dee Souter and former The Byrds bassist Chris Hillman, founded the supergroup Souther-Hillman-Furay Band . In its composition, he rewrote and released the song “Believe Me”, written by him for the album, but ultimately rejected. Chris Hillman contributed to Crazy Eyes , playing several songs on the mandolin .
