A specialist in the history and culture of Elam , a former professor at the University of Chicago , Abdulmajid Arfai suggested that the toponym Evez has a common origin with toponyms such as Ahvaz , Khuz and Khuzestan and dates back to the ancient Persian Uvaja or Uvja [2] .

Geography and climate
The city is located in the southern part of Fars, in the highlands of southeastern Zagros , at an altitude of 986 meters above sea level [3] . Evaz is located approximately 245 kilometers southeast of Shiraz , the provincial capital, and 910 kilometers southeast (SSE) of Tehran , the country's capital. The climate of the city is arid, with a small (200 mm) amount of precipitation during the year. The average annual temperature is +22 ° C, and in summer it can reach +40 ° C and higher. A significant influence on the climate of Evaz is exerted by its valley position .
Population
According to the census, in 2006 the population was 14,315 people [4] ; Persians (speakers of the Evazi dialect) prevail in the national composition, and Sunni Muslims in the confessional.
