The Tu-214SR aircraft is a special repeater aircraft, based on the usual passenger Tu-214 . Unlike the basic model, the Tu-214SR is equipped with additional fuel tanks, thanks to which its flight range is increased to 10 thousand kilometers, energy supply systems and a radio complex.

Aircraft Modification Features
Externally, the Tu-214SR is different from the usual Tu-214 with an antenna cowl at the top of the fuselage.
The plane can accommodate 72 people, has an additional power supply system, piloted not by three as a "classic", and the four pilots, flight range increased from 7 to 10 thousand kilometers (through the installation of additional fuel tanks).
The aircraft’s power supply has been enhanced, four generators have been added, since the board is saturated with instruments and assemblies.
Tu-214SR repeater airplanes are created by finalizing the Tu-214 base aircraft and installing on-board radio communication systems (BRTKS) on them, the main of which is the SSU-214M aircraft relay communications center developed by MNIIRS. [one]

Special Aircraft Equipment
The Tu-214SR is equipped with a radio engineering complex, which provides satellite communications for communication with ground objects and other aircraft. The leaders of the Russian Federation use radio relay communication. However, such a connection only works within the line of sight, therefore, it requires a system of terrestrial radio stations, repeater aircraft and satellites.
Tu-214SR is intended for flights to the northern regions, where it is problematic to use communication satellites over the equator.
The indisputable advantage of such a system is its high security. The encrypted information is in short pulses, at different frequencies and with high quality. Unlike conventional radio communications, information transmitted by radio-relay systems is very difficult to intercept, as well as to establish the points of its departure and reception. Despite the high cost of such a system, it provides the highest security requirements.
Special communications complexes were manufactured by the Omsk Production Association “Radio Plant named after A. S. Popova »The internal layout of the aircraft has also undergone a number of changes. Instead of the usual rows of seats, solid doors and partitions. Behind the cockpit is a cabin for 12 people for security. Next, three deaf compartments for operators and the head of the special communications center. Aircraft Operation
The first flight of the Tu-214SR, tail number RA-64515 was held April 27, 2008, December 10 the same year, took off the second board - RA-64516, and June 1, 2009 two machines were solemnly transferred to the Office of Presidential Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The new Tu-214SR replaced the outdated repeaters based on IL-18 aircraft, which have been operated by a special detachment for more than 40 years.
