Shahraq-e-Esteklal [1] [2] [3] ( Pers. شهرک استقلال ) is a small city in southern Iran , in the province of Fars . It is part of the Shiraz shakhrestan . According to the census, in 2006 the population was 6,519 people [3] .

Geography
The city is located in the central part of Fars, in the highlands of southeastern Zagros , at an altitude of 1,729 meters above sea level [1] . Shahraq e-Esteklal is located approximately 15 kilometers north of Shiraz , the provincial capital and 660 kilometers southeast (SSE) of Tehran , the country's capital.
