The son of ensign Ivan Antonovich Putyata . He was promoted to officer in 1797. During the Napoleonic Wars, he managed the Vitebsk Commissariat Commission, and then was Vice-Director of the Commissariat Department.
On December 12, 1824, he was appointed Kriegcomissar General of the Ministry of War and a member of the Council of War Minister . He held this position until September 24, 1827, when he was dismissed from all posts and left with the Commissariat staff. Together with V.V. Vargin, on January 3, 1830, he was imprisoned in the Alekseevsky ravelin of the Peter and Paul Fortress .
Among other awards Putyata had the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree.

From a marriage with Ekaterina Ivanovna Yafimovich (d. 1833) left offspring:
- Nicholas (1802-1877), real state adviser, writer.
- Ivan , Colonel.
- Alexander (1807β?)
- Dmitry (1806-1889), infantry general, adjutant general.
- Anna (d. 1880), not married.
