Biography
Born on November 11, 1932 in the village of Khasovitsa , Smolyan Oblast .
In 1947 he entered the Plovdiv Theological Seminary , and in 1952 - at the Sofia Theological Academy.
On January 14, 1959, he received monastic tonsure , and on March 22, 1959 he was ordained a hierodeacon .
In September 1959 he entered the graduate school of the Moscow Theological Academy . On July 18, 1962, at the joint service of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy I and the Patriarch of Bulgaria Cyril, he was ordained a hieromonk . After the successful completion of the Moscow Theological Academy, he returned to Bulgaria and on January 10, 1963 he was appointed protosynkel of the Velikotyrnovsky diocese.
December 4, 1963 elevated to the rank of archimandrite .
On March 10, 1967 he was sent to the ecumenical center of Teze , and from September 1967 he continued his internship at the Ecumenical Institute at the WCC in Bosset . In 1968 he was a student at the Theological Faculty in Lausanne. From August 1968 to August 1969 he studied English at Oxford University .
On October 30, 1970, he was appointed protosinkella of the Sofia Diocese, and on November 1, 1970, he served as chief secretary of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
December 15, 1974 was consecrated bishop of Znepol .
Since March 1, 1979 - the manager of the Akron diocese in America.
April 1, 1983 was appointed first vicar of the Sofia diocese.
July 26, 1987 was elected Metropolitan Vidinsky. Since 1992, chairman of the Department for Ecumenical Cooperation of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and a member of the central committee of the Conference of European Churches (CEC).
On December 9, 2008, he represented the Bulgarian Orthodox Church at the funeral service for the late Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II [1] .
On January 17, 2012, the state commission for the disclosure of citizens' membership in the work of the state security organs and army intelligence of Bulgaria during the communist period (the commission’s activity was approved by the Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church), data were published that Metropolitan Dometian was recruited by special services officer Vasil on July 28, 1972 Ivanov Vutov and from August 15, 1972 he passed as an agent Dobrev , who collaborated with DC, management VI-III-III, management VI-III-I.
