Fergus Edward O'Connor ( born Feargus Edward O'Connor , July 18, 1796 , Connorville , Ireland - August 30, 1855 , London ) is an Irish lawyer, one of the leaders of the Chartists .

Biography
O'Connor came from Ireland . From the 1820s he participated in the Irish national liberation movement [1] . Since the beginning of the Catholic League, O'Connor has participated in its activities, but after unsuccessful attempts to stand at the head of this movement, he left for England [2] .
In 1837 , when the Chartist movement emerged, which put forward a program of reform of the representation system, the Irishman founded the Northern Star newspaper ( English Northern Star ) and rather quickly became one of the leaders of the Chartist Great Northern Union. At the Chartist convention in 1839 , O'Connor defended revolutionary methods of struggle for the “People’s Charter” as opposed to William Lovett . [one]
Twice - in 1840 and 1843 - he was tried and served his sentence in prison. In 1843, Fergus O'Connor became a member of the Executive Committee of the National Chartist Association. In 1845 he founded the Land Society. In 1847, O'Connor became the first representative of the proletariat in the English Parliament. During the preparation of the Chartists' speeches in April 1848, he showed uncertainty, calling for a rejection of the struggle. [one]
In 1853, Fergus O'Connor was declared insane and placed in a clinic [2] . The leader of the Chartists in the Kingdom of Great Britain died in 1855 at the age of 59 years.
