El Golftet ( Spanish Golfete Dulce ) is a lake in eastern Guatemala . The lake area is 62 km² [1] (also called the number 58.559 km² [2] ), it is located at sea level [1] . The length of El Golfet is 15 km, width - from 3 to 5 km [3] . The average depth of 4-5 meters, the bottom is covered with a layer of silt [3] . The maximum depth is 20 m . Located in the valley between the mountains of Santa Cruz in the north-west, the mountains of Minas and Isidro in the south. The shore of the lake between Chokon-Machaka and Chikimilily is periodically flooded [2] . There are four islands on the lake: Quatro Cayos, Cayo Julio, Cayo Grende and Cayo Palomo [2] .

Through the lake flows the river Rio Dulce , which flows into the Gulf of Honduras ( Caribbean Sea ). The rivers Chocon-Machaka and Tamekh also flow into the lake [4] .
Climate
The average annual temperature in the vicinity of the lake is 27 ° С, the annual precipitation is 3600 mm [2] .
Nature
On the coast of the northeastern tip of the lake there is a mangrove forest . The lake is part of the National Park "Rio Dulce" [2] .
In the lake there are fish of the order somobraznye , cyclomasomes , centropomas , bricons , black crappie , crabs of the genus Potamocartinus [3] . Habitat population of manatees is noted [5]
