Official Tournament Ball

The official ball of the African Nations Cup was made by Adidas and was named “Cuttle,” which means “success” in the language of a sesoto . The name was chosen by African fans via online voting, where it outpaced other options, Chania (light) and Motswako (a mixture) [9] .

Draw

The draw for the final tournament was held October 24, 2012 in Durban [10] [11] . The home team (South Africa) and the reigning champion (Zambia) were previously assigned to groups A and C, respectively [12] . The remaining 14 teams were ranked by rating based on the results of their performances at the last three African Nations Cup rallies - in 2008, 2010 and 2012. For each of the three last draws of the African Nations Cup, the following scoring system of the selected teams was adopted:

ClassificationGlasses
Winner7
2nd placefive
Semi final3
Quarter finals2
Group stageone

In addition, the following increased coefficient was given to each of the last three African Cup races:

  • 2012 : points multiplied by 3.
  • 2010 : points multiplied by 2.
  • 2008 : points multiplied by 1.

The teams were then distributed into four baskets based on the ranking. Each team got one team from each basket [13] .

  1. The number of points earned in matches between these teams;
  2. Goal difference in matches between these teams;
  3. The number of goals scored in matches between these teams;
  4. Goal difference in all matches of the group;
  5. The number of goals scored in all matches of the group;
  6. The system of scoring for a fair game, taking into account the number of yellow and red cards;
  7. The draw held by the organizing committee.

Team Statistics

As is customary in football statistics, if the match ended in extra time with the victory of one of the teams, the winner counts the victory, and the loser - the defeat. If the winner is determined in the penalty shoot-out , a draw is counted for both teams.
