Biography
Casimir Christoph Schmidel was born in the German city of Bayreuth on November 21, 1718 . In 1742, Schmidel became a doctor of medicine at the University of Jena . From 1743 to 1763, Casimir Schmidel was a professor of medicine and pharmacology at the University of Bayreuth . In 1763 he moved to Ansbach , became the personal physician of Margrave Karl Alexander. In 1783, Casimir became an honorary doctor of medicine at the University of Erlangen . Casimir Christoph Schmidel died on December 18, 1792 in Ansbach.
Most of the plant specimens described by Casimir Christoph Schmiedel are stored in the Schreber Herbarium in the Munich State Botanical Collection (M). Some specimens are found in the herbariums of the Geneva Botanical Garden (G) and the Linnaeus Society of London (LINN) [1] .
