Biography

Joseph Eibler was born in the family of a musician and received his first music lessons from his father; at the age of 6 he was admitted to the boys' choir at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, where Joseph and Michael Haydn became his tutors. In 1777 - 1779, Eibler took composition lessons from I.G. Albrechtsberger , later from Antonio Salieri .

Highly appreciated by J. Haydn and V. A. Mozart , Joseph Eibler was the first to whom Constance Mozart, after the death of her husband, asked to add “Requiem” ; however, starting work, Aibler soon abandoned it.

In 1792 - 1793, Eibler was the regent of the choir of the Parish Church of the Carmelites , and in 1794 - 1824 he directed the choir of the Scottish monastery in Vienna. Since 1801, he simultaneously taught music to the children of Emperor Franz I [1] .

In 1804, Eibler was appointed deputy court bandmaster Antonio Salieri (vice bandmaster), and on June 16, 1824 he became bandmaster and held this post until 1834 , when a serious illness forced him to resign: in 1833, during the execution of Mozart’s Requiem Eibler was struck by an apoplexy strike [1] .

By 1834, Joseph Eibler served as a nobleman and became von Eibler.

In 1894, Lane in Vienna, in the Eyblergasse area, was named after Eibler.
