The chronology of human evolution describes the main events in the evolution of the species Homo sapiens and the evolution of the ancestors of modern man . It includes brief explanations of some species , genera and higher ranks of taxa , which today are considered as possible ancestors of modern people.
This timeline is based on research in anthropology , paleontology , developmental biology , morphology , and also on anatomical and genetic data. It does not address the issue of the origin of life , the discussion of which is limited to abiogenesis , but represents one of the possible lines of the evolutionary origin of species, which eventually led to people.

First living beings
| Time (million years ago) | Event |
|---|---|
| 4100 | The appearance of the oldest known signs of life. |
| 3900 | The emergence of cells resembling prokaryotes . |
| 3500 | The earliest traces of photosynthesis and the first case of an increase in the proportion of oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere. |
| 2500 | The appearance of the first organisms using oxygen. About 2,400 million years ago, during the oxygen catastrophe , most anaerobic life forms were supplanted by aerobic competitors. |
| 2100 | The emergence of more complex cells: eukaryotes . |
| 1200 | Sexual reproduction occurs, leading to faster evolution [1] , in which the genes mix in each generation and this gives a greater variety for subsequent selection. |
| 900 | The probable lifetime of the common ancestor of all animals. |
