Biography

Hanafi Zeynalli was born in 1896 in Baku . In 1917 he was a Social Revolutionary , and since 1919 he was a member of the CPSU (B.) [1] .

The main principles of Zeynalli's criticism came down to the interpretation of literature from the point of view of enlightenment. Hanafi Zeynalli was arrested in January 1937 on suspicion of counter-revolutionary activity and shot in October of the same year. Hanafi Zeynalli is considered the " pioneer " of Azerbaijani folkloristics [2] . In support of this, Hanafi Zeynalli cites an excerpt from Javid’s play “Peygambar” [3] .

Hanafi Zeynalli was arrested on January 28, 1937 . During the investigation (interrogations were conducted by Galustyan, who was also subsequently shot), he signed confessions several times and refused them. Zeynalli explained the reasons for his confessions: “For 12 days I kept saying that for old sins punish me, but with K.-r. I’m not connected with Rukhulla Akhundov’s organization ... All this remained a voice crying in the desert ... 12 days of solitary confinement, half-starved regime, nervous wrangling and, finally, almost sleepless nights ” [1] . He was shot on October 13 of the same year [1] .

Criticism of Hussein Javid

In his critical works, Zeynalli, trying to explain the socio-philosophical essence of the work of Huseyn Javid , limited himself to stating a number of coincidences in the works of Javid, Fikret and Hamid , without explaining the social essence of this phenomenon. Hanafi Zeynalli, who deeply studied Javid’s drama, wrote in one of his articles in 1926 : “Javid created works that are similar in form to the works of Hamid, reminiscent of Fikret in style, and Rizu Tevfik in philosophical views . ” In support of this, Hanafi Zeynalli cites an excerpt from Javid’s play “ Peygambar ” [4] .
