Karakhrod [1] [2] [3] , or Kararud [1] [2] , or Kararud [1] [2] , or Karakhrud [1] [2] , or Kara Rud [1] [2] ( Pers. کرهرود ) is a city in the west of Iran , in the province of Merkezi . It is part of the shakrestan Erak and is a southwestern suburb of its center of the same name. The sixth most populous city in the province [3] .

Geography
The city is located in the southwestern part of the Central Ostan , in a mountainous area, at an altitude of 1,886 meters above sea level [1] . Karahrud is located a few kilometers southwest of Erak , the provincial capital, and 230 kilometers southwest of Tehran , the country's capital.
Population
As of 2006, the population was 23,399 people [3] ; Persians predominate in the national composition, Shiite Muslims in the confessional.
