Biography
Very little is known about the Duke of Spoleto Faroald II. The main reason for this is the insufficient coverage of the early medieval history of Spoleto in the sources.
Faroald II became the Duke of Spoleto in 703 after the death of his father.
According to the testimony of Paul Deacon , in 718 Faroald captured Classis - one of the ports of the Ravenna exarchate , but on the orders of the King of the Lombards, Liutprand, he was forced to leave him [1] . However, Liber Pontificalis reports that the port was conquered by the king himself. A compromise version is the assumption that the Duke of Spoleto took Classis, and then transferred it to Liutprand [2] .
Faroald also took part in the restoration of the Abbey of Farfa , which, although located in Roman Sabina, belonged to the duchy of Spoleta [3] .
In 724, the son of Faroald II, Trazimund II , rebelled against his father, overthrew him and placed him in a monastery. The date of death of Faroald II is unknown.
