The first to investigate and leave a detailed description of the complex was A. L. Berthier-Delagard . The monastery complex is located in a karst grotto, where traces of processing, a neatly cut doorway, were preserved, on the two sides of which deep niches were carved. The door led into a narrow passage with an arched vault and stairs to the lower tier along a short corridor, which was lit through a window cut into the wall. Crosses are carved on the walls of the cave. The number of known premises is about five.

Presumably, it was an independent monastery of a cinovial nature. It must be assumed that he was subordinate to the St. George and St. Sophia Monasteries located in the lower reaches of the Inkerman Valley.

In the 20s of the XX century, in the vicinity of the complex, stone mining was carried out by the explosive method. Probably then the cave collapsed. The cave complex was finally destroyed in 1944 as a result of a direct hit by a shell.

500 m east of Zephyr-Koba there is a cave room with a stone ledge-bench and a carved seat in front of the entrance.
