Biography
Alexey Vasilievich Sosnovsky was born on March 30, 1923 in the village of Belyany, Mogilyov-Podolsky district, Vinnitsa region of the Ukrainian SSR . His childhood and youth passed in Krasnoyarsk . He studied at the railway school.
In 1942 he was drafted into the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to the Krasnoyarsk school of military technicians.
In the fall of 1942, he was promoted to sergeant commander of a machine-gun platoon at the 75th Stalin Volunteer Separate Rifle Brigade of Omsk Siberians , which in April 1943 was transformed into the 65th Guards Rifle Division . Later received an officer rank.
Sosnovsky August 7, 1943 with six fighters of his platoon, the first to burst to a height of 233.3. They destroyed four German mortars, three machine guns and the calculation of the 37-mm gun, which they captured and used against the Germans. Sosnovsky鈥檚 platoon was surrounded by Germans, all six soldiers were either wounded or killed, and Sosnovsky continued to fight. From his machine gun, he personally destroyed more than 60 German soldiers and officers, and in hand-to-hand combat killed four soldiers and one officer. After the end of the ammunition, Sosnovsky blew himself up with the last grenade.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism of the guard shown, Lieutenant Sosnovsky Alexei Vasilyevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumous).
Sosnovsky was buried in a mass grave at the Gnezdilovsky height in Spas-Demensky district (now - Kaluga region ).
