Blackwell is a developer of human-like robots, as well as the inventor of the motorcycle unicycle "Unicles" ( eng. Eunicycle ), similar to the one-wheeled scooter " Segway " ( eng. Segway ). Blackwell is the founder andgeneral director of the robotic company " Anybots ". In 2005, together with Paul Graham , Robert Morris and Jessica Livingston ( eng. Jessica Livingston ) founded the venture capital fund Y Combinator [2] .
Biography
Blackwell grew up in the Canadian city of Saskatoon . He studied engineering at Carleton University ( Eng. Carleton University ) and received a bachelor's degree in engineering ( Eng. BEng ) in 1992, then studied information technology at Harvard University ( Eng. Harvard University ) and received a Ph.D. ( Eng. PhD ) in 1998. In his thesis, random methods were used to analyze the performance of networks and compilers [3] .
While still a schoolboy, Blackwell joined the Viaweb service ( English ), for which he wrote image rendering, order processing and statistics software. The company bought Yahoo in 1998, and Blackwell moved to Silicon Valley to lead the Yahoo Store development team.
He founded the company “ Anybots ” in 2001 with the goal of creating human-like robots - telepresence devices. In 2006, the company announced a robot, which, when walking, balances like people, not at the expense of a large area of “sole” [4] .
One of the side projects was a two-wheeled balancing scooter, similar to Segway ( English Segway ), but with a different steering mechanism. Another project was the self-balancing " Unicycle " ( eng. Eunicycle ). Several fans have created a device based on the open development of the device.
