History
On April 27, 1967, Pope Paul VI issued the Bull Qui Christi , which established the Diocese of Santa Cruz del Quiche, separating it from the Diocese of Solola (today - Diocese of Solola-Chimaltenango ). On the same day, the diocese of Santa Cruz del Quiche entered the Metropolitanate of Guatemala .
On February 13, 1996, the diocese of Santa Cruz del Quiche entered the Metropolitanate of Los Altos Quetzaltenango Totonicapana.
On July 11, 2000, the diocese of Santa Cruz del Quiche was renamed the diocese of Quiche.
