Career
At the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck , he won silver in the relay race, and also took 9th place in the 15 km race and 6th place in the 30 km race.
At the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble , he won the relay bronze medal, in addition he was 4th in the 15 km race, 6th in the 30 km race and 11th in the 50 km race.
During his career at the World Championships, he won three silver medals, two of them at the 1966 World Cup in Oslo .
He won 7 times in the Finnish championships, 4 times in 15 km races, 2 times in 30 km races and 1 time in 50 km races.
In addition to skiing, he was seriously engaged in rowing and biathlon . In biathlon he was a two-time medalist of the European Championship among police officers.
During and after the completion of his sports career, he served in the police, having retired with the rank of sergeant.
