The bridge was completed by Cologne architect Gerd Lomer ( de: Gerd Lohmer ) [1] . The pylon project was carried out by the architect Herbert Schambek ( de: Herbert Schambeck ) [2] . The construction of the bridge was carried out from 1976 to 1979 by the construction companies Koger [3] and Kahmann [4] .
A technical examination of the bridge in 2003 revealed that 9 out of 96 cable-stayed cabs were corroded and should be replaced. 9.5 million euros were allocated for this event, another 7.5 million euros were allocated for a set of measures to protect all bridge structures from corrosion. These works began in June 2006 and were fully completed in September 2010 [5] .
