Thirst ( Hindi प्यासा , Pyaasa ) is an Indian black-and-white musical romantic drama directed by Guru Datta . The film collected at the box office 1.5 crores and received the status of "super hit" [1] .

In 2002, Sight & Sound magazine included "Thirst" in the list of the best films of all time (160th place) [2] . In 2005, “Thirst” was included in the list of “The 100 Best Films of All Time” according to Time magazine [3] .
Story
The unemployed Vijay is the youngest in the family, which consists of his widowed mother and two brothers. His passion is poetry, but his brothers, who want him to find paid work instead, do not approve of it. Vijay writes quite radical poems in which he describes the fate of poor, destitute peasants and the arrogance of the rich after the British left India. All his efforts to publish poems remain in vain. Vijay begins to drink and renounces his brothers, he has problems with the law. Once in a brothel, Vijay meets a prostitute Gulabo, who treats him with understanding and decides, through her rich clients, to help publish his poems.
