Competitions in modern pentathlon at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City were held from October 12 to 17, 1968.

2 sets of awards were played: in the individual and team championships among men. The competition was attended by 48 athletes from 18 countries. From each country no more than three athletes competed (the team of 3 athletes was fully nominated by 15 countries, which also won awards in the team championship). UIPM also began to conduct doping control after in 1965 at the World Cup there were some incidents related to the use of alcohol by athletes before shooting.

The team of the Soviet Union came to the Olympics in the following composition: Pavel Lednev (USSR champion in 1968), Boris Onishchenko , Stasis Shaparnis and reserve Eduard Sdobnikov (world champion in 1962). Team Leader Oleg Chuvilin.
