Description

The melodic intro is played by Joey De Mayo on a bass tuned an octave higher (piccolo bass), rather than an electric guitar, as it might seem. The song has an easily recognizable, melodic intro, a characteristic chorus in which Eric Adams shouts “Kill!”. The musicians were inspired to create songs by medieval wars . It describes an imaginary attack of ten thousand soldiers against an enemy unit.

Criticism and influence

In the book "The Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs of All Time" (The Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs of All Time) by Canadian music journalist and editor-in-chief of Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, Martin Popoff, song ranked 258th. The list was compiled based on a survey conducted by Popoff among 18,000 heavy metal musicians and fans of heavy metal music. Popoff described the song as a Viking ballad. In his opinion, the content of the song is almost comically exaggerated. He also noted that the group repeatedly returned to the “formula” first used in this song and developed it to stronger results [2] .
