In 2008, he won the world championship among juniors.

Blockheisen's performance at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games

At the Olympics in Vancouver, he took 9th place at a distance of 5000 m and became a bronze medalist in the team race together with Sven Kramer , Mark Teuter and Simon Kuipers . In the run for 3rd place, the Netherlands team set an Olympic record.

A year later, in 2011 he became the silver medalist of the European Championship (lost to Ivan Skobrev ) and the bronze medalist of the world championship in classical all-around. At the World Individual Distance Championships in Inzell, he finished third in the team race.

In 2012, he again became the silver medalist of the European Championship (lost to Sven Kramer), became the second at the World Championships in classical all-around and the world champion in the team race, together with Kun Vervey and Sven Kramer .

In 2013, he won the European Championship silver for the third time in a row. He performed less successfully at the World Cup (11th place), as it turned out later, the decline was due to intestinal infection ( infectious mononucleosis ) [1] . In March 2013, after a conflict with coach Gerard Kemkers, he announced his retirement from the TVM team, in which he trained for several years with Sven Kramer at the end of the season [2] .

He became the silver medalist of the 2014 World Championships in all-around.

Studying at the University of Groningen .
