Botanical Description
The stalk is 15-100 cm high, branched from the base, with upright stems thickened upright or elbow-curved in the lower nodes.
Leaves up to 2.5 cm wide, glabrous, sharply rough on the edges.
The inflorescence is paniculate, dense, often one-sided, up to 20 cm long. Spikelets are single-flowered, ovate, sitting 2-4 on short legs on one side of the branches. For the most part, there are three spikelet scales, of which two are upper, often with a long spine. It blooms in July - September.
Distribution and habitat
It grows almost everywhere. It is found everywhere in Russia , except the Arctic , as weed in the fields, in vegetable gardens, gardens, near roads and housing, as well as in wet meadows along the banks of water bodies.
Economic Significance and Application
A good grazing and haying plant, can serve as food for poultry.
