Turkmeneli Autonomy
In 2007, the leader of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, Saadettin Ergeç , during his trips to Turkey and the United States, spoke out against holding a referendum on the status of Kirkuk , according to which Kirkuk would be included in the Kurdish autonomy and the Kurdish language would be given the state language. He stated that the Turkmens opposed granting special status to the city and categorically demand that the city be granted the status of the official capital of the future Turkmen autonomy.
