At the 1974 World Cup in Falun, he won gold in the 15 km race and bronze in the relay. Murmo’s victory at the 1974 World Cup is unique in that, by the time the championship was held, most athletes had switched to skis made from fiberglass , and Murmo was one of the few who performed on wooden skis. Having won the 15 km race, Mürmo went down in history as the last world champion in wooden skiing.
