It was founded by a native of the village of Dahbid (not far from Samarkand ), a Sufi from the Order of Naqshbandiy, Ishan Mahmad-Rizo-Khoja , who settled on the bank of Karatagdarya with several students. On the grave of this Muslim, one can find a five-letter Farsi with a chronogram testifying to the time of the founding of the city. In 1870, Karatag was forced to submit to the Bukhara emirate, which in turn had already accepted the protectorate of the Russian Empire. In 1907, the city was destroyed by a strong earthquake. Then about 12,000 people lived in it. It was soon rebuilt [2] . Since 1920 - as part of the Tajik SSR. The Russian philologist L. V.
