Foundations of Economic Analysis ( 1947 ) is a book by American economist Paul Samuelson . The basis was the doctoral dissertation of the scientist, defended at Harvard University in 1941.

The book includes the Preface, 2 parts (12 chapters): Part I (8 chapters) and Part II (4 chapters). In 1983, the author supplemented the original text of the book with three mathematical applications (A, B and C).
Ideas
The book’s epigraph was a comment by the American physicist J. W. Gibbs: “Mathematics is a language.” The book attempts to translate all the basic problems of economic science into the language of mathematics. The analysis of economic equilibrium, according to the author, can be carried out using a number of tasks for maximum and minimum. The main ideas of the book in a popular form are presented by the author in the following work: the textbook “ Economics: Introductory Analysis ”.
