Iceland participates in the national qualifying contest for Eurovision 2012 in Baku , Azerbaijan . The representative will be chosen through the competition Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012, which is organized by the Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV.

Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012
The application period for the Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012 competition was open until October 10, 2012. The indigenous people of Iceland and its citizens legally residing in the country until October 1, 2010 can participate in a national competition. Icelandic composers can collaborate with composers from other countries and each composer can send no more than three songs. On October 12, 2012, according to official data from the RUV channel, 150 applications were received for the Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012 competition. [one]
A total of 15 performers will compete for the right to represent Iceland in an international competition. Each semi-final (3 in total) will contain 5 performers, of which only 2 will qualify for the final of the competition. Thus, the final of the Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012 competition will consist of 6 performers. At the moment it is not known whether the jury will select another participant who will participate in the final of the competition. This option is now discussed in the manual channel RUV. [2]
The songs participating in the television selection phase are chosen by a special committee. The names of the performers are kept secret in order to avoid biased decisions. The names of the performers will be announced at a press conference RUV. [3]

Iceland at Eurovision 2012
Iceland performed in the first semifinal of the competition, where it scored 75 points (8th place) and successfully reached the final, in which it received 46 points and took only 20th place.
