Bannikov Memorial

The Victor Bannikov Memorial is an annual football competition for youth teams held in Ukraine. He bears the name of the goalkeeper of the USSR national team and the first president of the Ukrainian Football Federation Viktor Bannikov (1938–2001). Founded in 1998 as a competition of youth teams of Ukrainian clubs, 12 teams participated in the first tournament. The winners were ATEK and Dynamo Kiev. The following year, 16 clubs from different countries took part in the tournament, since 2002 only junior teams have played here. In 2014, the tournament was canceled due to the refusal of participants to go to Ukraine due to the unstable situation in the country. [1] In 2015, the tournament was canceled due to the refusal of the majority of invited participants to arrive in Kiev. Ready to come to Ukraine was only the Latvian national team. [2]

Tournament Format

At the first stage, teams are drawn by drawing lots in two groups of 4 teams where they play one round in the system each with each. At the second stage, the winners of groups play 1-2 places, second places in a group play 3-4 places, teams that take third place in a group, play 5-6 places and teams that take fourth place in a group play 7-8 places.

Match Format

The match will last in the format of two equal halves of 40 minutes, the break between the halves of 15 minutes. In the matches for the final places in the cases of a tie, a penalty shootout breaks through. The number of replacements is not limited. The match is served by a team of referees 4 people, the main referee in the field, two side linesman and reserve 4th arbitrator.
