The commemorative medal “40th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR” was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated December 18, 1957 [1] to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR .

Medal Regulations
The commemorative medal "40 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" is awarded to marshals , generals , admirals , officers , as well as foremen , sergeants , soldiers, and sailors of long service , consisting by February 23, 1958 in the frames of the Soviet army , Navy , troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs , troops and KGB organs of the USSR Council of Ministers .
The awarding of the anniversary medal and its presentation is carried out on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR by the commanders of military units, formations and heads of institutions and establishments.
The list of persons awarded the commemorative medal is announced by order in part, institution, institution. The mark on awarding a medal is entered in the record of the awarded person.
The jubilee medal "40 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" is worn on the left side of the chest and, in the presence of other orders and medals of the USSR, is placed after the jubilee medal "30 years of the Soviet Army and Navy . "
Medal Description
The jubilee medal "40 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" is made of brass and has the shape of a regular circle with a diameter of 32 mm.
On the front side of the medal, in the center - a bas-relief image of V. I. Lenin in profile, turned to the left.
In the lower part of the medal there is a relief inscription “40” on two crossed laurel - oak branches.
On the reverse side of the medal there is an inscription on the circumference: “IN THE DETERMINATION OF THE FORTIQUE ANNIVERSARY”, in the center: “ARMED FORCES OF THE USSR” and the date “1918-1958”, at the bottom - an image of a small five-pointed asterisk .
The edges of the medal are bordered by a side.
All images and inscriptions on the medals are convex.
The medal with the aid of the ear and the ring is connected to a pentagonal block covered with silk gray moire ribbon 24 mm wide. In the middle of the tape are two red strips 2 mm wide each, along the edges of the ribbon there are also red strips 2 mm wide.
The author of the picture of the medal is the artist V.I. Gogolin.
