Dogger Bank [1] [2] , also the Dogger Bank [3] ( Dutch Doggersbank , from the Old Dutch dogge - “fishing boat”) is the largest sandbank ( bank ) in the North Sea , 100 km from the coast of England. It covers an area of about 17,600 km² with a maximum distance of 260 km from the southern to northern edges and 95 km from the western to eastern edges. The depth of the sea in the shallow area ranges from 15 to 36 meters, about 20 meters less than in the waters surrounding the shallow.

According to modern geological hypotheses, in the era of the last glaciation, there was land on the site of the Dogger bank, connecting Britain with the European continent. Susha received the conditional name Doggerland . Doggerland is believed to have been flooded at the beginning of the Mesolithic, in any case no later than 5000 BC. e.
From a geological point of view, the sandbank is moraine . An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale , the strongest ever recorded in the UK, occurred in the shallow area in 1931 . The sandbank is a region rich in fish; herring and cod fishing take place here.
Dogger Bank has become the scene of several naval battles. The first of these occurred on August 5, 1781 between the British and Dutch fleets during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War ( Battle of Dogger Bank, 1781 ). On October 21, 1904, Russian ships shelled British fishing vessels here , mistakenly mistaking them for Japanese destroyers. During the First World War, on January 24, 1915, the British and German fleets fought at Dogger Bank ( Battle of Dogger Bank, 1915 ).
