The coat of arms of the city of Cheboksary was approved on August 4, 1998 by the City Assembly of Deputies of Cheboksary. The coat of arms of the city in its current form (without a frame of arms) was approved by the session of the Cheboksary City Council of Workers' Deputies on June 3, 1969 . The author of the coat of arms, Elli Mikhailovich Yuriev , kept five ducks from the historical coat of arms in the lower part of the shield (but they turned white on a blue background). In the upper part, a white-red Chuvash ornament is placed; in the center of the ornament is the date “1469”.

Emblem Description
The coat of arms of the city of Cheboksary is a silver crossed shield of French form, divided into a head and a base. In the azure field of the base are the natural figures of the “Five Silver Ducks” flying in an envelope. In the scarlet field of the chapter, separated from the base by a zigzag line (in the Chuvash ornament - the image of the river - in this case the Volga River ) three silver stylized Chuvash ornament - silhouettes of oaks . The inner field of the two extreme oaks is scarlet, the field of medium silhouette is azure. On the azure oak field, the silver number “ 1469 ” is the date of the first annalistic mention of Cheboksary .
The shield of the coat of arms is crowned with natural figures - three four-beam octagonal purple, framed with gold stars and framed by a symmetrical decorative stylized ornamental motif ( Hops ) of gold color, closed at the bottom with a motto cartouche with the inscription in two lines “Shupashkar” - “Cheboksary” on a purple field.

The symbol “Five silver ducks” is an emblem granted by the imperial decree in 1783 , meaning: “ The emblem of Kazan is in the upper part of the shield. In the lower - five flying ducks in a golden field as a sign that in the vicinity of this city they are very abundant . ” According to the rules of heraldry, the symbol “Five ducks flying in an envelope” cannot be replaced or changed. This unique symbol in world heraldry means the desire for freedom, initiative and the manifestation of achieving goals. The blue, azure field in heraldry means - a symbol of beauty, clarity, softness and greatness. Oak , the beloved Chuvash tree, a subordinate (non-heraldic) figure, meaning strength, eternity, strength. The emblem "Three Silver Oaks" is a symbol. These three silhouettes at the head of the shield of the coat of arms of Cheboksary mean the existence of the city of Cheboksary in time: in the past, present and future.
Three four-beam octagonal stars crowning the emblem of the city is a graphic expression of the motto of the State Emblem of the Chuvash Republic : " We were, we are and we will be ." The ornamental insignia “Hops” with the motto cartouche “Shupashkar” - “Cheboksary” - elements borrowed from the state symbols of the Chuvash Republic , indicate the legal status of the city of Cheboksary as the capital of the Chuvash Republic .

1781 Coat of Arms
This emblem of the city of Cheboksary was approved on October 18, 1781 along with other emblems of the Kazan governorship.
In the upper half of the shield is the coat of arms of Kazan , in the lower part "five wild ducks flying in a golden field as a sign that in the vicinity of this city they are very abundant."
