Burica ( Spanish Península de Burica ) is a peninsula in Central America , in the south of Costa Rica and in the west of Panama .

Geography
A narrow and long peninsula cuts into the Pacific Ocean , forming the Charco-Asul Bay (part of the Chiriki Bay) in the east. To the south across the strait is the island of the same name Burika . The peninsula is the southernmost limb of Costa Rica. It is divided between Panama and Costa Rica. Its western part belongs to the Costa Rican province of Puntarenas , the eastern part to the Panamanian province - Chiriki . The maximum height above sea level is 257 m. The only major city, Puerto Armuelles , is located in the north of the peninsula in the bay of Charco Azul. Its population is 8,200 people. ( 2005 ). The local population is mainly engaged in fishing.
Legal Status
Echandi-Fernandez Treaty concluded by Panama and Costa Rica in San Jose in May 1941, defined the border between the two states. Under the treaty, two-thirds of the peninsula in the east went to Panama, and one-third in the west went to Costa Rica. The peninsula is also the border of time zones, Costa Rican time differs from Panamanian by one hour.
