Location and History
The monument to Mikeshin was erected on October 4, 1985 near the building of the Art Gallery (Museum "Russian Antiquity"). The opening of the monument was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the outstanding sculptor, a native of Smolensk province . The monument project was created by sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov and architect I. N. Voskresensky [1] .
Appearance
The monument is facing Tenisheva street. The authors of the monument was given a romantic interpretation. Mikeshin, leaning back, sits on a bench in front of the model of the monument " Millennium of Russia " in Veliky Novgorod , the author of which he was [2] . The pedestal of the monument is tetrahedral, white stone, on the front side of the pedestal there is a bronze plaque with the inscription: “Mikhail Osipovich Mikeshin. 1835-1896 ” [1] .
