Kenya Standards Bureau

The Kenya Standards Bureau is the government agency responsible for managing and maintaining the standards and metrology measures in Kenya. It was established by law of the National Assembly of Kenya under chapter 496 of the Code of Kenya. The Bureau began operations in July 1974. It has headquarters in Nairobi and regional offices throughout Kenya.

The Board of Directors of the Bureau is known as the National Council for Standardization and is the legislative body for the oversight and control of the administration and financial management of the Bureau. The Executive Director of the Bureau is the Managing Director.

The goals and objectives of the bureau include the preparation of product standards, measurements, materials, processes, etc .; their promotion at the national, regional and international levels; certification of industrial products, assistance in the production of quality goods; quality control of imports at ports of entry, improving measurement accuracy and disseminating information related to standards.

Kenya’s Standards Bureau is a member of the International Organization for Standardization ( ISO ).
