The National Population Commission of India is headed by the Prime Minister and the Vice-Chairman of the Planning Commission as Vice-Chairman. Chief ministers of all states, ministers of related central ministries, secretaries of concerned departments, prominent doctors, demographers and representatives of civil society are members of the commission.
Mandate
Commission authorized:
- analyze, control and give instructions on the implementation of the national population policy in order to achieve the goals set in the demographic policy
- stimulate the interaction between medical programs, educational programs, environmental protection programs and development programs in order to accelerate the stabilization of the population
- promote interregional sectoral coordination in planning and implementing programs across sectors
