Biography
Taira-no Tomomori was the son of the head of the Taira clan, Taira-no Kiyomori , and an active participant in the internecine war in Japan between the parties of Taira and Minamoto - the so-called Gempei war . At the very beginning of hostilities, he won the battles of Uji (1180) and Yahadzigawa (in 1181). In the last Taira-no, Tomomori forced Minamoto's troops to flee, but due to illness refused to pursue them.
Two years later, Tyra-no Tomomori once again managed to defeat the enemy - this time in the naval battle at Mitsushima . In this battle, at the order of Tomomori, the Tyra fleet connected and tied its ships together so that they formed a broad common platform with which the soldiers, despite the pitching, could accurately hit the enemy with arrows and successfully attack him, boarding.
After the battle of Dannour , tragic for the Tyra clan, when their troops were finally defeated, Tyra no Tomomori - like many of his comrades-in-arms - committed suicide. Having tied a heavy anchor to his feet, he jumped into the sea.
