Biography

Igor Klekh was born on December 13, 1952 in Kherson in the family of a civil engineer. He graduated from school in Ivano-Frankivsk , in 1975 he graduated from the Department of Russian Philology at Lviv University . For 17 years he worked as a restorer of stained glass in Lviv . The first publication was published in 1989 (Rodnik magazine, 1989, No. 8). Since 1994, lives and works in Moscow . Member of the Union of Russian Writers ( 1991 ), Russian PEN Center ( 1996 ).

The reputation of a thinking stylist, consciously rejecting standard forms and banal themes, has been established for the writer. In his works, I. Klech omits unnecessary and uninteresting for himself. From outwardly simple and ordinary things, he builds complex metaphors. The nonlinear prose of Igor Klekh is an important phenomenon of Russian literature of recent years.

The works of I. Klech are translated into English , German , Polish , Hungarian , Finnish , Lithuanian , French and Ukrainian .

Prizes

  • 1993 , Pushkin Prize of A. Töpfer Foundation ( Hamburg );
  • 1995 , Prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts ;
  • 2000 , Yuri Kazakov Prize for the best Russian story of the year (the story " Dogs of Polesie ", the collection " Hunting the Pheasant ").

In 2010, a long list of the Russian Booker Prize [1] included Igor Klekh’s book, The Chronicles of 1999, published by New Literary Review .
