Schauerhammer, Dietmar

Dietmar Schauerhammer ( German: Dietmar Schauerhammer , August 12, 1955 , Neustadt-on-Orel , Thuringia ) is an East German bobsledder who accelerates and plays for the German Democratic Republic in the 1980s. Participant in two winter Olympic games, two-time champion of Sarajevo , world and European champion.

Biography

Dietmar Schauerhammer was born on August 12, 1955 in the city of Neustadt on Orel , Thuringia . From a young age he became interested in sports, went to athletics, in particular, was involved in pentathlon and decathlon. He began to perform in a bobsled on a professional level in the early 1980s under the leadership of pilot Wolfgang Hoppe , began to show good results, got into the national team of the GDR as an accelerator. So, already in 1983 he won bronze at the World Championships in Lake Placid.

In 1984, Schauerhammer was taken to defend the country's honor at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo , the athlete won in both disciplines, winning two gold medals. At the 1988 Games in Calgary , he and Hoppe climbed to second place and took the silver award.

In total, Dietmar Schauerhammer won the World Championships five times, including twice the first, once the second and two times the third. Repeatedly won at various stages of the World Cup, is a two-time European champion, several times won the first places of the national championship. He completed his career as a professional athlete in the late 1980s.
