Story
Enrico Tucci ( Enrico Montesano ) is a person who has collected only failures in life: at work, where he, the toilet seller, is constantly threatened with dismissal, and in his personal life, where he is married to Matilda (Silvia Dionisio), a waitress from a restaurant, which considers him a failure. He does not even manage to commit suicide by gas poisoning, because the gas cylinder is damaged, and also jumping from the roof of the house, because the fall ends on a truck that carries mattresses. The exact opposite is the life of Mario Spinozi ( Claude Brasser ), an ex-footballer who is now supported by the rich wife of Carla (Claudine Auger), who has only one thing in common with Enrico that they studied at the same school.
To avoid another dismissal, Enrico comes to Mario to ask for help after seeing his photograph in the newspaper. Mario is not up to him: taking advantage of his wife’s departure, he plans to spend the evening with the young flight attendant Monique (Janet Agren) and at first he kicks Enrico out, but when his wife comes back unexpectedly, he gives Enrico his husband Monique, promising to buy him many toilets.
Enrico is invited to a dinner hosted by Carla, who wants to convince an important German entrepreneur to sign a contract with her. It turns out that this dinner is served by a restaurant in which Matilda works. Numerous misunderstandings and tragicomic situations arise during dinner: Enrico discusses a deal with a German entrepreneur who thinks that the “black tulip” that Enrico sells is the rarest kind of flower, not the toilet line. Mario is trying to retire with Monique in the greenhouse, but there are also Carl and Enrico, whom she is trying to seduce. In the dark, Mario and Enrico accidentally swap places. Mario passionately makes love with his own wife, thinking that this is Monique, while Carla thinks that Enrico is with her. And Enrico does not happen with Monique, since he thinks that he is with Carla. After this, Mario and Enrico again accidentally change places. Monique throws Mario. Following the dinner, Enrico simultaneously loses his job and wife, but becomes Carla's lover, who discovers Mario's betrayal of Monique.
After a period of marriage between Enrico and Carla, both become lovers of the respective spouses. In the end, Carla takes the initiative and goes with Mario home to Matilda, intending to ask her to accept Enrico again. At this moment, Carla, Mario and Matilda see that Enrico is trying to commit suicide again, in fact, he is hiding from Carla on the roof of the house. Convincing Enrico so that he does not rush down, Mario and Carla promise various gifts, but Enrico eventually accidentally crashes, but this time he escapes by falling on a truck that carries mattresses.
