Nikolaus Sechen von Temerin ( German: Nikolaus Anton Graf Szécsen von Temerin , Hungarian Miklós gróf Szécsen de Temerin ; November 26, 1857 , Temerin - May 18, 1926 ) - Austro-Hungarian diplomat, Count . The last ambassador of Austria-Hungary in France .
Biography
Born November 26, 1857 in Temerin (on the territory of Vojvodina ) in the family of the Austro-Hungarian statesman Count Anton Sechen von Temerin ( 1819 - 1896 ). In 1896 he married Countess John Mikesh von Zabol.
He entered the Austro-Hungarian diplomatic service, worked in Rome . In November 1895 he was appointed head of the Second Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since January 1900 - the head of the First Section of the Ministry. In November 1901 , despite a little diplomatic experience, he was appointed ambassador to the Holy See . Count Sechen earned the fame of a capable diplomat with a firm, practical mind, expertly grasping the nuances of diplomatic work.
In 1906, he rejected the proposal to take the post of ambassador to Russia , who was released after the appointment of Count Alois von Erenthal as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In early January 1911 he was appointed ambassador to France (presented his credentials on March 21).
He played a big role during the July crisis . After the outbreak of the First World War and the departure of the embassy from Paris, he became a member of the upper house of the Parliament of Cisleitania (Herrenhaus), in 1916 - 1918 he served as corps marshal at the Hungarian court.
Since 1908 - a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece .
He died in Hungary on May 18, 1926 .
His son Nikolaus was executed by Soviet soldiers in the city of More, Hungary, on March 28, 1945.
