Biography
Sergei Koloshin was born on January 10, 1825 in the city of Moscow [2] in the family of the titular adviser to the Moscow provincial government Pavel Ivanovich Koloshin (1799-1854), close to the Decembrists , a member of the Union of Welfare and the Moscow Council of the Northern Society .
He studied at the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum , where he was friends with L. A. May ; then he entered the military service [3] , was a grenadier , then he did not serve for long in the hussars . In 1853-1857 he served in Irkutsk , then retired. In 1857 he returned to Moscow and devoted himself entirely to literature.
Sergei Pavlovich Koloshin died on November 27, 1868 in Florence [2] .
Literary work
Since 1849 he was published in Moskvityan magazines, wrote humorous feuilleton in Domestic Notes (Notes of the Looming), from which the essays of Polovaya and Raek, full of observation and humor, were especially noteworthy.
In 1859 he began to print in "Entertainment". He wrote under the pseudonym “ Not Me, ” sarcastic, sarcasm-filled feuilleton, often affecting privacy, which immediately raised the magazine’s success. He placed feuilletons, articles and essays in The Pantheon , Northern Bee , and Morning.
He was supported by MP P. Pogodin and I. S. Aksakov [4] . He played a prominent role in the magazine of the Moscow Slavophiles “Moskvityanin”, but left him in 1851 due to disagreements with the editor M. P. Pogodin .
From December 16, 1861 to 1863 in Moscow, S. P. Koloshin published a weekly illustrated magazine, “A Spectator of Public Life, Literature, and Sports.” Although, according to its political program and sympathies, the Spectator adjoined the Aksakov weekly newspaper Den, Aksakov himself had a rather low opinion of this magazine [5] :
It was a conservative body that openly supported the government’s repressive policy towards the revolutionary democratic press and the Polish rebels.
- I. S. Aksakov
Among the employees of the magazine was G. I. Uspensky , whose works first appeared on the pages of the magazine in 1862 (short stories and essays “Idyll. Fathers and Sons”, “On a Holiday and a Holiday”, “Folk Fest in Vsesyatsky”, “Guest” , “On the Run”, “Summer Sergius at the Trinity”). [6]
The publication of the magazine “Spectator of Public Life, Literature and Sports” ceased after a year and a half due to a lack of funds. As a result of financial problems, S.P. Koloshin went bankrupt. Due to the shaken health, he was forced to leave for Italy , where he lived in poverty, worked as an interpreter in the Milan court, served in the office, and corresponded from Italy to the Golos and Russkiy Invalid newspapers from St. Petersburg.
