Initial Biography
Kondrat Semyonovich Melnik was born on March 13 (25), 1900 in Ivankovo of the Radomysl district of Kiev province.
Military Service
Civil War
In 1919 he joined the ranks of the Red Army .
During the Civil War, the Red Army fought on the Southwestern Front . During operations against rebels in Ukraine, he commanded a separate cavalry squadron.
The interwar period
From 1921 to 1926 he commanded a cavalry squadron, and also worked as the head of a regimental school.
In 1923 he joined the ranks of the CPSU (b) .
In 1926 he graduated from advanced training courses for cavalry command personnel.
From 1927 to 1930 he served as chief of staff and commander of a cavalry regiment.
After graduating from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze in 1933, he was appointed chief of staff of the 4th separate cavalry brigade . Since 1935 he worked as chief of staff of the 16th separate cavalry division .
Since July 1937, he commanded the 30th Cavalry Division . In December of that year he was appointed to the post of military commander of Leningrad , and in July 1938 - to the post of deputy chief of staff of the Far Eastern Front . In this position he took part in the Hasan battles .
From September 1938 to July 1939 he worked as chief of staff of the 2nd Red Banner Army , and from August 1939 to July 1941 - senior lecturer at the Military Academy. M.V. Frunze .
World War II
Since the beginning of World War II, he commanded the 53rd Cavalry Division , which was transformed into the 4th Guards in November 1941. As a division commander, he took part in the Battle of Smolensk and the Moscow Battle , and in August 1941, as part of the Dovator’s group, the division carried out a two-week raid on enemy rear lines [2] .
Since March 1942, he commanded the 15th Cavalry Corps , which was located in Iran after the Iranian operation .
From October 1942 he commanded the 44th Army , from November 1942 the 58th Army , and from October 1943 the 56th Army . He took part in the battle for the Caucasus [2] .
In November 1943 he was appointed to the post of deputy commander, and in April 1944 - to the post of commander of the Separate Maritime Army
Post-War Career
From 1945 to 1946 he commanded the Tauride Military District , then worked at the USSR Ministry of Defense .
In March 1952 he was appointed to the post of chief military adviser to the Romanian army and military attache in Romania .
Since 1958, he worked as head of the Directorate of Military Training under the Central Committee of DOSAAF .
In 1961 he retired.
Kondrat Semyonovich Melnik died on May 3, 1971 in Moscow .
He was buried at Vvedensky cemetery in Moscow, plot 29 [3] .
