The Baluarte Bridge ( Spanish: Puente Baluarte Bicentenario ) is a cable - stayed bridge in Mexico that connects the states of Sinaloa and Durango . It is the highest cable-stayed bridge in the world [1] , the third highest bridge in the world as a whole and the highest bridge in the western hemisphere [2] [3] .

The grand opening of the bridge happened on January 5, 2012. The length of the bridge is 1124 m. The height is 403 meters. The bridge crosses a mountain gorge along which the Baluarte River flows. The bridge reduced the travel time by six hours between the city of Mazatlan on the Pacific coast and the capital of Durango in the central part of the country.
